Six new Chargers for the 2009-2010 season
With only 44 days until the puck drops on the 2009-2010 season of UAH hockey, the Chargers are welcoming six new freshmen to the squad. A quartet of forwards lead off the incoming players, with a d-man and a goaltender rounding out the roster.

What I personally find striking about these incoming boys is that every single one of them are what the guys and gals up in the section 24 at the VBC refer to as “NOT ONTARIO!” In the past our roster has always seemed to heavily favor the capital province of our neighbor to the north, and this new class stoutly bucks that trend. Compare that to our seniors, four of whom out of the six are from Ontario. The complete roster for the 2009-2010 season can be viewed at UAHChargers.com.
And speaking of our seniors, these are the last boys to have played under two different coaches during their time in Huntsville. These amazing young men were mere freshmen when they won the 2007 CHA Championship in Coach Ross’ final season with the Chargers. As a result, they helped lead UAH on to it’s first trip to the NCAA Regional Tournament against top ranked Notre Dame. Many believed the Chargers would prove little in the way of a challenge for the Irish, but these boys helped their team take Notre Dame to the fifth longest game in NCAA Regional Tournament history, before ultimately falling to the Irish 3-2 in the second overtime. Current senior forward Cale Tanaka scored one of the two UAH goals in that contest.
So, to the boys coming in, welcome. And to the rest of the boys, coaches, staff, supporters and fans… GO BIG BLUE!
You have a player from Tenn? Holy Cow…
Come on now, Goon, being from Tennessee isn’t a big deal. We’ve had players from several southeastern states, all of whom have done quite well for themselves. There’s something far more interesting to holy cow about though. But I’m not telling. Google.
