It looks to be a great outing and many alumni from out of town have let us know they will be attending and we always have a great response form our local alumni.

2010 Charger Golf Tournament Player Form

1. Television: ESPNU will carry the game at 3:00 p.m. Huntsville time. Buffalo Wild Wings on University Drive (Madison Sq. Mall) has indicated to us that they receive ESPNU and would be willing to host UAH fans who wanted to congregate to get the game. I was asked to look into this by UAH students, who don’t get ESPNU on campus.
2. Radio: WTKI (92.9FM, 1450AM) will carry the broadcast. I’m not sure exactly when we’ll be on the air, but I’d figure no earlier than 2:30 p.m. Huntsville time. When I say “we”, I mean Steve Moulton (play-by-play) and yours truly (color commentary).
3. On the Web: We honestly don’t know just yet. We are looking into options for rebroadcast on the Internet, and we’ll update you when we have more information. Update, 1:07 p.m. No Internet broadcast. Too expensive to get the rights.

If you’d like to sponsor the radio broadcast, here are the details:

• $75 a game gets you at least five 30-second spots. If you have a spot already produced, we’ll use that; if not, please work with us and we’ll get copy from you for either Steve or I to produce prior to the game. We’ll also do an unspecified amount of in-game reads to thank our corporate sponsors, and if we go into overtime, additional ads are free as our thanks.
• $50 a game gets you an individual sponsorship. We’ll read your name during the game as a thanks from us to you for your support of UAH Hockey Radio. This is designed for boosters, alumni, team parents, etc.
• If neither of these options works for you, we’ll take PayPal in smaller increments.

As it stands, I’m putting this together in the hopes that we’ll get the costs covered, so financial assistance is greatly desired. We’ve got two corporate sponsors already, and we’re hoping to have at least five.

So, if you will, please either comment here, on Facebook, via Twitter, or in an email to g@saveuahhockey.com, let us know: do you want one of the blue road jerseys? We’ll use the interest to gauge the jersey buy and price them accordingly.

All proceeds would, as you’d guess, to go UAH Hockey. Right now, we’d guess on a price point of around $200, but that may come down. Why so expensive? The jerseys themselves—which aren’t replicas, but would be just like a game-worn jersey—run over $100.

First-come, first-served. Email Coach Luongo for yours. $300 each, and you get a photo with your player after the game. Also, Coach Cole [7], Luongo [6], and McCabe [25] will have jerseys for sale with their collegiate numbers.

I know that #19 is already gone, and I’ve put in for Cole or Luongo myself…

No one.

The Times couldn’t be bothered to send anyone to cover the game. The only newspaper in the city couldn’t find so much as an intern to get reaction from the coaches on the game. And sadly this is nothing new.

Local media, be it the Times or the television outlets, continue to be woefully apathetic towards the boys and the program. Certainly they throw the occasional bone when the team is at home on VBC ice, but more often than not the program receives little attention. Take WHNT’s latest story on their site chronicling UAH splitting Notre Dame on the road, written a week and a half after that particular series and after the boys swept Air Force on the road.

And actual coverage on television is little better. When the boys swept Air Force there wasn’t mention of it on WAFF, but they found time to report on the exhibition game that the Havoc had. On average the Chargers are lucky if they get thirty seconds worth of coverage on air when they are at home, but when they are on the road they rarely, if ever, get mentioned.

Back when the CCHA decision was announced I said the greatest mistake we can make is letting the media forget about our plight. Now more than ever, we fans need to be in the media’s ear and in their inbox making our voice known. It’s time we band together to remind them of their obligation to report on the program.

So, I’m issuing this challenge, hold them to task. If you watch the local news the evenings we play and they don’t report on the outcome of the game ask them why they didn’t do so. If you notice that they report on the Havoc while they’re on the road, but not our boys, ask them why. If they make mention of a coming home match-up for the Havoc, but neglect to mention the same for the Chargers, ask them why.

What we would love to see is for you fans to be on the offensive trying to get the media to change their apathetic ways towards the boys. Listed below is the contact information for every sports director in Huntsville. When you see or hear something that you feel should have been reported, contact them and follow up with them as necessary. And let us know the outcome. If even a tenth of the people that have become fans of our effort on facebook contact these outlets it will send a clear message to those persons that we expect them to report on the program more than the minute amount that they currently do.

Hey Geof,

Coach and I wanted to ask you to send out a plea for some manpower help at the game’s this year. We need some help in the filming of the game and setup of the broadcast equipment. I also need someone to help out with computer stats. The guy I trained to do it last year bailed on me and I need to be able to manage the entire operation and be able to review goals rather than input the stats in the computer. They have a spotter that calls the plays to them but need to have a basic understanding of hockey and the penalty situation. We’ll train them on the software that is very easy to use. Of course we’ll provide them with passes, food and parking at the games as well as additional tickets on a per-game as-needed basis.
